Pathfinding

Pathfinding is a set of self-buffing spells that augment the abilities of Rangers. With this spec line we gain self Armor Factor, Strength, Dexterity/Quickness, and Damage Add buffs. This spell line is a very large part of what brings rangers into balance for PvE and RvR. The buffs are generally not as good as what you can get from Druids, but they still make up a very large part of the class. The damage add alone is fairly large part of our melee, and can easily account for 15-30% of your total damage. Pathfinding buffs gain a 25% bonus over what they delve for, so if a buff says it adds 40 to strength, it will really add 50 when you cast it on yourself.

Buff-bots
A "Buff-bot" is a Druid on a second account, who is specced to the maximum level in Nurture (their buffing spec line), which is used to buff players and is then left in a safe location (such as a portal keep). At least half of all stealthers (if not more) use these to gain an advantage in the Stealther Wars that take place in RvR (fighting a fully buffed player is fairly equivalent to fighting against 2 seperate players), as well as to help them level up in PvE. If you use a buffbot, the only buffs that you cannot replace are the damage add and speed boost. Because of this the value of the Pathfinding buffs are diminished. Generally a player who uses a Buff-bot should only spec between 16 and 27 Pathfinding. Occassionally people spec to 36 because they like the damage add.

Don't got one/Don't want one
Without a Buff-bot, the "best" stopping point for Pathfinding is somewhere between 29 and 40, since even if you group most of the time you will wind up using your self-buffs often, and they are required in PvE in order to solo. If you wish, you can stop earlier or later, but because it is such a large part of our ability to effectively solo I do not recommend lower than 27 spec by level 50. Also I recommend you plan your stopping points at either a damage add or dex/qui buff because these tend to be the more important ones that are not so easily replaced in groups.
